Christmas
Christmas is the season of giving—gifts, love, and kindness. It is my favorite time of the year because it allows me to share presents with my friends and family. Beyond the material gifts, what makes Christmas special is the warmth and affection that fills the air. Within that month, I truly felt love: in the laughter we shared, the hugs exchanged, and the joy of being surrounded by people who matter most. This is the essence of Christmas—it is not only about what we give, but how we give it, with sincerity and compassion.
On December 22, our family gathered at our house in Caoayan to celebrate both Christmas and New Year. The house was alive with festive decorations, delicious food, and the sound of cheerful voices. Being together under one roof reminded us that Christmas is not just a date on the calendar, but a moment of unity. It is a time when families reconnect, strengthen bonds, and create memories that last far beyond the season.
One of the highlights of our celebration was when my tita gave us ampao (red envelopes with money). Though simple, this gesture carried deep meaning. Gift-giving during Christmas has always been a tradition rooted in love and generosity. From the biblical story of the Three Wise Men offering gifts to the newborn Jesus, to modern practices of exchanging presents, the act symbolizes thoughtfulness and care. Receiving ampao was not just about the money inside—it was about the love and blessings my tita wanted to share with us.
In the end, Christmas is about more than material gifts. It is about giving time, kindness, and love to others. Whether through presents, shared meals, or heartfelt words, the true spirit of Christmas lies in generosity and gratitude. As we welcomed the New Year together, I realized that the greatest gift of all was the presence of family, the joy of togetherness, and the love that binds us. That is the essence of Christmas—an endless cycle of giving and receiving love.
